An Irish senator has praised the Qatari government after being flown out for a four-night stay at a luxury hotel in Doha, to meet ministers ahead of next month’s controversial World Cup.
The 2022 tournament has been dogged by reports that as many as 6,500 migrant workers – flown in from places such as India, Pakistan and Nepal to build stadiums – have died in the decade since the Gulf nation was awarded hosting rights.
